Cape Cod Beer Returns from GIBF with Six Medals
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, November 13, 2014
Last weekend the 18th annual Great International Beer & Cider Competition was held in Providence RI, alongside the 21st Great International Beer Festival (GIBF). Seven hundred ten (710) beers and ciders from breweries and cideries across the U.S. and from around the world entered the competition. One hundred-twenty (120) professional brewers, beer industry professionals (retail and distribution) and beer journalists acted as judges in a blind tasting format. The judges knew only the style and subcategory of each beer and cider. First, second and third place awards were presented in 55 categories of ales, lagers and ciders. Cape Cod Beer is proud to announce that they were awarded a total of six medals: 3 gold and 3 bronze for beers entered in the competition. Cape Cod Beers that won included:
Medal | Beer | Category |
GOLD | Cape Cod Weizenbock | WHEAT BEER – Weizenbock-Dunkel Weisse |
GOLD | Cape Cod Harvest Ale | GERMAN ALT STYLE |
GOLD | Christmas in July | STRONG BEER – OLD ALE |
BRONZE | Cape Cod Dunkelweizen | WHEAT BEER – Weizenbock-Dunkel Weisse |
BRONZE | Cape Cod IPA | INDIA PALE ALE |
BRONZE | Kurt’s Farmhouse Ale | BELGIAN-STYLE SAISON |
This is the fourth time that Cape Cod Beer has been honored with medals from the GIBF, and it is an event that the CCB Brew Crew participates in each year. This year the 5 members of the Cape Cod Beer production team acted as judges in the competition, and several members of the brew crew were on hand to receive the medals. Previous wins include:
2008: 2 Gold medals: Red and Dunkelweizen
2012: 2 Bronze medals: Beach Blonde and Dunkelweizen
2013: 1 Silver medal: Porter
“The nice part about this competition is the ability to get involved at so many levels. Of course you can just go to the festival – which is cool, but our crew really enjoys being part of the judging. They get to spend the day tasting and talking about beer with the wonderful cast of characters that makes up our industry. Lots of New England brewers, homebrewers and “beer geeks” all get together for this event. Sending our entire production crew this year gave them some time to have fun and learn more about their craft” explained Todd Marcus, Brewmaster/President, Cape Cod Beer. “Unfortunately my wife Beth and I were unable to attend but we were getting up to the minute texts during the medal ceremony! We were very proud and really excited for our crew. In the end it’s more about how the local community likes our beers, and less about awards, but I have to admit, getting them is kind of cool!’
