“Fur Missile” K9 Camera Fundraising Campaign Raises a Total of $34,039.07
Hyannis MA, August 13, 2018:
In the wake of the tragic death of Sergeant Gannon – a Yarmouth PD K9 Officer – the Barnstable Police K9 Foundation launched a fundraising campaign on June 1st to purchase cameras for the protection and improved safety of both the BPD K9s and their handlers. Special infrared and remote voice command enabled dog cameras exists that allow K9 officers to better assess and respond to situations, but the state of the art camera are costly. A single camera costs $22,000.
The Foundation approached Cape Cod Beer to see if they were willing in some way be part of the fundraising effort. Cape Cod Beer quickly agreed to host a fundraising party & to create a special beer with 100% of the gross revenue of the beer donated back to the foundation. Cape Cod Aggregates added a matching donation of $10,000. The remainder of the funds raised was from the sale of tickets to the fundraising party, sale of the beer, sale of pint glasses, live & silent auction proceeds, business sponsorships & private donations.
The fundraising campaign & beer was called “Fur Missile” – a name affectionately used by the handlers to refer to what a working K9 looks like as it launches itself towards it objective – and the campaign kickoff party was held on June 1st at Cape Cod Beer.
