JOB OPENING: Full Time Year Round Production Assistant (Entry Level)

We prefer people who homebrew – and those who are mechanically inclined…but if you are a hard worker, have a strong attention to detail, and are willing to start from the bottom…. This is the job for you!

We are a 19 year old microbrewery located in Hyannis MA and brew about 7,000 bbls per year – all our beer is self distributed within about 50 miles of the brewery.

You must live locally or have housing on Cape Cod to be considered for this job.

At Cape Cod Beer, the Production Assistant is responsible for working as a team to follow standard operating procedures in the day to day production operation including, but not limited to: fermentation, filtering, packaging, keg and growler washing as well as cleaning and general brewery maintenance.  At least 50% of this position is dedicated to the packaging of finished product.  While there is opportunity to learn about the rest of the production process, this job is focused on support of the brewing process, but not brewing itself.  This job is the precursor to an Assistant Brewer position, and a required step in a brewing career path here at Cape Cod Beer. This position reports to the Lead Brewer.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Working in a production environment in a production brewery which operates 12 hrs per day off season and 18 hrs a day during the high season. (June – Sept)
  • Working within defined standard operating procedures and safety guidelines to perform all the daily tasks required in the process from grain to glass, including fermentation, cellaring, packaging, cleaning and more.
  • Maintaining attention to detail and quality control throughout all aspects of production process.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the production area and warehouse
  • Utilizing mechanical aptitude to maintain and repair production equipment, as needed.
  • Carrying out any other reasonable duties as required.
  • Communicating regularly and efficiently with a positive attitude, sincere interest, and in a positive way with staff and management alike.

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with staff and customers.
  • Must be able to multi-task and effectively manage time while also being detail and quality focused.
  • Must demonstrate a strong work ethic, be able to stand for 8 -10 hours per day, lift 55 lb grain bags, climb stairs, stoop in close quarters, fill and move kegs (165 lbs.) and cases, grip & manipulate tri-clamps and drag hoses, several times a day.
  • Must be able to work both independently and as a team.
  • Must have the ability to read and understand a variety of scientific instruments and calculations.
  • Must be available to work flexible schedules including weekend and occasional overnight shifts.
  • Must be prompt, responsible and dependable.
  • Must have a well developed sense of humor.
  • Must enjoy making good beer.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.

This job starts at $15 per hour and has full benefits (medical/dental/simple IRA at 90 days)
