Description: Malty sweetness & citrus juiciness

What is a SMaSH beer? SMaSH beer is a recipe that is defined by using a Single Malt in the grain bill and a Single Hop in the hop bill (hot-side and DH). The technique for brewing is much the same as all the other beers that Cape Cod Beer brews, except the recipe formulation has to account for the fact that the bitterness from the hops and the sweet, maltiness from the grain only come from one source each, which already have very specific flavor profiles. The result is a nicely balanced beer that allows the drinker to experience the qualities of each ingredient in a harmonious union.

In this rendition of Cape Cod Beer’s Pilot Brew Series, our SMaSH beer features Vienna-Style Malt and Mandarina Bavaria Hops. Vienna Malt is a highly versatile grain that can be used in conjunction with other grains in small amounts to add a roundness of flavor and even some grainy notes, while also being utilized as base malt in other beers to provide the majority of the fermentable sugar required and also the enzymatic power of a more common base malt. Mandarina Bavaria is a breed of hops developed at the Hop Research Institute in Hüll, Germany. Known mainly as an aroma hop, Mandarina Bavaria is versatile because of the mid-range alpha acid content of 7-10%. Delicately hopped during the boil, this beer features a mild, citrus-rind bitterness accompanied by pleasant aroma of fresh-cut fruit and ripe tangerine.
