Several years back, at the end of the Summer season, the brew crew decided to take the very last pitch of hefeweizen (Summer) yeast and make a Dunkelweizen, or dark wheat beer. It was a bit of an experiment, but one that tasted so good that they then decided to enter it into the Great International Beer Festival in Providence RI. Lo and behold, that beer won a GOLD MEDAL at the GIBF that year, and we’ve been making Dunkelweizen ever since! We only make one batch and we only sell it out of the brewery. You might find a few kegs of it out and about on draught, but growlers are only available at the brewery…while supplies last!
